“A poetic documentary following Grace Schwindt’s residency at M Museum, capturing how damaged sculptures, restoration, and intimate collaboration inspired her exhibition A History of Touch.”
documentary showcase
This documentary follows artist Grace Schwindt during her 2023 residency at the storage depot of M Museum. There, she became immersed in the hidden world of damaged historical sculptures and the careful work of the conservators who care for them.
Through close collaboration with restoration experts, Schwindt explored how museums deal with heritage, trauma, and repair. These encounters deeply influenced a new body of work—watercolours, paintings, and ceramic sculptures—created for her solo exhibition A History of Touch (14.02–16.11.2025).
At the heart of the film is the making of a large ceramic sculpture designed to support a 16th-century Christ figure from the museum’s collection. The documentary captures Schwindt’s process, the dialogues that shaped it, and her reflections on fragility, care, and the traces we leave behind.
